I know a lot of bloggers/Booktubers do this tag, but I decided to do after seeing LaRonda @ Flying Paperbacks do it. Looks like a cute lil thing, and I finally got around to it!
1. Best book you’ve read this year?
I read a lot of different genres, including fiction and non-fiction, so I’ll do one fiction book and one non-fiction book.
For non-fiction, I really enjoyed Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town by Jon Krakauer. I loved reading it and getting angry over all the shitty things the authorities did. But I’m petty like that.
There are a lot of fiction books I loved so far this year, but I’ll have to say Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo was my favorite. I thought it tied everything up nicely, and I enjoyed the plot and character development as I read. Also, fun fact, apparently Bardugo has a long-term plan, which includes another Six of Crows book?? I’m in.
2. Best sequel read in 2018?
I read all of The Heroes of Olympus books before I started this blog, so that’s why I have a Goodreads review and not one on my blog. Anyway, I loved reading the whole series, but especially The Son of Neptune. I thought it was a great book, and I was fascinated with the addition of Roman mythology.
3. New release you haven’t read but want to?
Listen, I want to read this book so bad. I want all the ace main characters books, please and thanks. Seriously, though, it was hard to pick just one book because there’s so many I want to read. This seems to be the year of great book releases, I guess.
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
I love Becky Allbertalli, and I love Adam Silvera. So, of course, a book written by both of them? I want. From what I’ve read about it already, it’s going to be amazing. I’m not ready whatsoever. (This was also really hard to choose because I can’t wait for a lot of books.)
5. Biggest disappointment?
I was so ready to love Leah on the Offbeat, and while I still somewhat enjoyed it… It disappointed me to no end.
6. Biggest surprise?
I was pleasantly surprised by The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins for two reasons: it was my first audiobook (which I thought was awesome), and I wasn’t expecting much from the plot. It was one of those super-popular books and not to be Edgy™️, but a lot of times, “super-popular” is hit or miss. The Hunger Games, thankfully, was a hit!
7. Favorite new-to-you or debut author?
Tomi Adeyemi!! I love Children of Blood and Bone, and I absolutely cannot wait for the sequel!
8. Newest fictional crush?
I…don’t really have fictional crushes? So one of my new favorite characters is Amari from Children of Blood and Bone.
9. Newest favorite character?
I always love getting a chance to gush about my fav characters… Another one is Reyna from The Heroes of Olympus. I love her character, and her friendship with Annabeth and Piper is??? Amazing???
10. Book that made you cry?
I (tried to) listen to the audiobook, but Eragon made me almost cry because of how bad the narration was. I absolutely will not listen to anything read by Gerard Doyle now because, wow, way to totally butcher a dragon’s voice. Really loving it. /s
11. Book that made you happy?
Legend by Marie Lu made me pleasantly surprised and happy! I’m not much of a fan of sci-fi/dystopia, but I really enjoyed reading this. Now I have to eventually get around to reading the next two books of the trilogy.
12. Favorite book-to-film adaptation?
The only one I watched this year was Love, Simon (which I watched twice, once by myself and once with my boyfriend)… so I guess Love, Simon. It was a pretty good movie, and I want to own the DVD so I can watch it whenever I want!
13. Favorite post you have done this year?
I have a few!!
- REVIEW #16 | “The Hunger Games” (The Hunger Games #1) (Audiobook)
- List #4 | 5 Books with LGBT+ Characters That I Enjoyed & 5 Books with LGBT+ Characters I Want to Read
- REVIEW #14 | “Everyday Sexism”
And more, but I think I’ll just leave it to these three.
14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year?
The cover of Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller is absolutely gorgeous, and I love it. Just…like at those pretty colors. And the knives?? I love it all.
15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
The entirety of my physical TBR, but I don’t think that’s gonna happen. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
